financial services
Enlight’s online ECDL solutions help the German insurance company Victoria
assure appropriate ICT skills among employees. In the process, Victoria support
internal employee mobility and career development, as well as improving the
efficiency of training programs.

The Victoria insurance company is part of the Ergo group, the second largest insurance group in Germany and an European player with 12.000 employees in Germany only. Like all insurance companies Victoria’s operations are very IT intensive and ICT skills are important for all employees.
The challenge – assuring ICT skills and internal mobility
Like all insurance companies Victoria’s operations are very IT intensive and ICT skills are important for all employees. To enable internal mobility that promotes career development and efficient use of human resources is one of the challenges for Victoria’s HR team. Victoria Versicherung has an extensive trainee program. In this program it became clear that common standard of basic skills is an important condition for creating internal mobility, not only for the trainees but also for the general human capital development.
The solution – online ECDL testing and administrationFor ICT skills Victoria chose ECDL as a common standard that reflect the skills needed in the different job roles across the organisation. In order to create an efficient training program for ECDL Victoria Versicherung decided for Enlight’s online ECDL solution with pre and post assessment to support a blended learning solution with tutored e-learning.
Victoria Versicherung uses Enlight’s ASP services and gets access to assessment testing over the Internet. Each participant starts by taking Enlight’s QuickCheck tests. These tests are used to provide information for the teachers about the pre skills level of the participants in order to facilitate training planning. The training is concluded with an examination seminar where each participant takes a post diagnostic test to assess that the learning objectives are met. All employees that pass the diagnostic tests are offered to take the official ECDL certification also included in the Enlight’s solution through an accredited ECDL test centre. The program is open for all employees.
Result – A ICT skills standard, promoting internal mobilityVictoria Insurance has been using Enlight’s ECDL solution since 2002 with positive results. Assessment tests together with the blended learning program have reduced the time spent in training, and the ECDL program has made it easier for the participants to change job roles in the company. In February 2004 Victoria therefore chose to become ECDL Partner with DLGI, the national authority controlling the ECDL certification in Germany.
